I have decided to progress my current knowledge on how to help people with anxieties, stress and pain relief to attend a course very soon on helping with childbirth. I see it as a double win for me, as not only is my hypnotherapy supervisor a specialist in this area (and for helping children), she is going to be holding the training at the prestigious Clifton Practice training centre, where there will be lots of people wanting to practice on me! I will be learning how to help others and benefiting from the techniques myself.
I have lots of confidence in my colleagues giving me the very best chance of having the birth I want, a natural one. Last time I had to have an emergency C-section, so this time I need to have a quick birth, with minimum interventions, otherwise it could be another C-section for me. From my current training I know that stress and anxiety contributes to the pain levels we experience, and affects the chemical physiology within the body. There is lots of research that has shown us that if women are relaxed, they are more likely to have a quicker and less painful experience.... and those of us that have been watching "one born every minute" or any other TV birth, would definitely want the chance of less pain, over a shorter period of time!
During the course I will cover many areas, the ones I believe I am going to be particularly interested in are below:
- Basic anatomy and physiology of the body during pregnancy and labour
- Use of hypnotherapy during the birthing process
- Clinical research studies on the use of hypnotherapy for birth
- Achieving the ideal mental state throughout the stages of labour
- Hypnotherapy and prenatal, peri-natal and postnatal bonding/ recovery
- Hypnotherapeutic interventions utilised throughout the birthing process
There will be obviously much more on the practical hypnosis and process side, but as an expectant mum the above techniques sound good to me.
As I will be going on maternity leave soon, I will be attending my top-up training in this area and then going on maternity leave very soon afterwards. However I believe this is going to be so beneficial to me as a birthing mum, especially having had an unfortunate situation arising the first time around, therefore I want to be able to extend the benefits to any other mums that feel that they also want this extra mental & physical boost. To allow them to enter their own birthing experiences as confidentially as possible and who knows we might even be sharing a ward together!
Sessions would be over 3 sessions, once a week and will be at a discounted rate (£48 per session) as, I'm about to go off on maternity myself. Contact me or call nadine on 07590 540074 to register your initial interest and I will contact you with further details, on how I can pass on the knowledge and self hypnosis techniques to you!
