"Last year it was reported that more than 7,000 UK adults are being paid sickness benefits because they are too fat to work. Department of Work and Pensions statistics show the total number of obesity claims had doubled between 2010-13, to 7,080." Currently we are waiting to find out the outcome of a European Union ruling that may mean that employers need to broaden the current equality legislation to include obesity.
The impact of related health issues, additional considerations or adaptions to work due to obesity is something employers are increasing needing to consider. With obesity rates increasing, if you haven't yet needed to, it is likely to be something to be aware of on the horizon.
Workplace mental health has been legislated for for over a decade. Although stress and anxiety is a difficult thing to measure when it will significantly impact different individuals, weight is something we all have a common understanding of when fat is getting problematic.
Thankfully changing the way you think and behave, creating healthy habits are all things that respond well to coaching and visualisation techniques. Reducing stress and focusing on healthy habits for weight loss will provide positive results. Having someone to ensure you stay focused, challenge any attempts of excuses and support you until you reach your goal, makes the process easier, more enjoyable and quicker.
I work with clients for weight loss on a one to one process. I also provide group talks for company health days on how to start creating mental changes to create new healthy work and personal habits for the future. For more details contact me for availability on email@example.com
